This is the last study I'll be posting for a while, I'm moving on to more imaginative works for the next couple of months.

Last week whilst wandering around the web I found the blog of Lydia Wallace, an aid worker based in the far east.

Recently she was involved with relief efforts following the Earthquake in Sichuan. on this page: fiferis I found her photo of this smiling old lady from Bandao cun.

The photo is fantastic, and I couldn't help painting this version of it. I think it's the first time I've ever painted someone so old, and though I didn't try for a perfect portrait, and certainly took the opportunity to play around with texturing her face, I'm happy with the results (granted... I did overdo it with the texture a little! :)).

3.5 hours Photoshop/wacom all default photoshop brushes

Thanks in advance for all faves, and I really appreciate your comments!

Copyright of the original photograph is owned by Lydia Wallace. Many thanks Lydia for permission to show this piece ;)

Impressive again Nicksketch! ...Old people are severely hard.. You got the hair and the wrinkles absolutely perfect!
Just, when I was looking at the reference picture I noticed her eyes were more squinted so they didn't look completely black. I don't know if you noticed that, but its a tiny thing. Its a successful study :)

hmmm, you have a point dude ;) I never really tried hard with the initial sketch, so quite a lot of it is out, it's still not a bad likeness, but it isn't right. the eyes do bug me... I have made them better than they were but I was thinking when I put it up that on some monitors she will look a bit freaky... maybe it's worth fixing it? I'll see.

Thanks for the feedback :D always appreciated :huggle:
